Pollinator Pot with InsectJUNE 16-25, 2010 - POLLINATORS IN AMERICAN INDIAN ART
What a wonderful way to honor our environment and Mother Earth! In recognition of National Pollinator Week (June 21 - 27, 2010), The Indian Craft Shop is highlighting
"Pollinators in American Indian Arts"   from June 16 - 25th.  Whimsical butterfly and bee pins are looking for a place to land. Flowered barrettes would look lovely in your hair. Take home a piece of polychrome pottery from the Kewa Pueblo, formerly Santo Domingo Pueblo, depicting a butterfly and cheerful flowers. We will have Navajo and Tohono O'odham basketry made from sumac (pollinated by bees), yucca (pollinated by moths) and devil's claw (pollinated by wasps).  And we have a very large basket depicting the harvesting of the saguaro, the cactus famous for its wine as well as its shape that is pollinated by bats, bees and doves. Squirrel, bat, hummingbird and butterfly fetish carvings as well as arts and crafts with a floral motif will add to our exhibit. Join us as we celebrate pollinators and the plants they pollinate!
